So, bored with your current exciting-as-an-eggsandwich colour? Have no fear,
resident hair dye expert Ej to the rescue! Dying your hair is sooo much fun and the possibilities are endless. An all-over colour is good for adding shine and giving hair a subtle new lease of life without being too dramatic and is the easiest dying to do. However, incredible shine and one new color isn't good enough for some so that's when your imagination can go wild (providing theres no restrictions placed on you by your work). Jazz up the ends, highlights, lowlights, tips - and so on. Step 1 - Choose a Color Through intense research I have discovered what I think are the best hair dye thingumies around: "Jerome Russell Bleaching Kit" £4.99 - Cheap and easy to use but only lifts up to 3 levels "N-Rage Intense Lift Kit" £5.99 - Lifts up to 7 levels, but not recommended for beginners "L'Oreal Le Noir Richesse" £5.99 - Choose from blue/black, red/black, purple/black or black "L'Oreal Feria" £4.99 - Choose from 7 gorgeous shades of red, from carrot-top to blood "Manic Panic Cream" hard to get hold of but well worth the effort. Lasts for ages. Easy to use. "Crazy Color" £2.98 - A cheap imitation of manic panic, good colors but they don't last as long "Jo Hansford Professional Cream" £4.99 - super silky soft shinyhair can be yours! Step 2 - Choose a Style Now you know what colour you're doing to dye your hair comes the tricky bit. Will it be an all over glisten and gleam or heavenly highlights? I suggest making quick little sketches or taking inspiration from magazines, friends, whatever. Step 3 - Bleaching or Pre-Lightening If bleaching or lightening hair, NEVER shampoo beforehand and apply bleach to dry hair. If highlighting use a plastic cap with pull through holes or section off hair with plastic clips. NEVER use metal implements or clips with hair dye. Developing time varies but is generally around 30mins - 90mins Step 4 - All Over Dye This is the easiest kind of dying. Apply mixture to wet hair, massage in and leave for recommended time. Rinse off and dry. Step 5 - Crazy dying over bleach The fun part of dying. Using a plastic tine brush, simply paint dye straight on to hair. These kinds usually need to be combed through until frothy and left for about 15mins. Then *bam!* gorgeous hair. The good thing about using a tint brush is you get to totally control where it goes. And there you have it - dying is soo easy... go on... |
